The 4th of July Party Spot
|
|
Some of the most expensive property in the states can be found in the villages and hamlets between Southampton and East Hampton, on the end of Long Island, New York. The homes might all belong to the elite upper-class rich of the country, but the nights of the 4th of July weekend belong to tourists come for a party.
After reaching islands by Long Island Railroad, Montauk Highway or Ferried in from Connecticut or Shelter Island, those in-the-know might find themselves in a back yard barbecue with some of the countries elite. Less privileged visitors can still enjoy some of the best cuisine around and possibly catch a glimpse of the stars.
Celebrity appearances and even impulsive performances are common— Ethan Hawke and Howard Stern both dined in Hamptons twice in the same week; Cypress Hill jumped into the DJ booth after dinner and performed several numbers; Twilight star Nikki Reed took up the DJ booth during a visit; and, Nick Cannon picked up a microphone and entertained the audience at the launch of the Bamboo restaurant.
Long stretches of beach, some public and some private, offer views of the pyrotechnics and a chance to mingle with other visitors from all over the east.
