The City by the Bay
Surrounded on three sides by water, the 43 steep hills of the Bay City offer an eclectic and lively mix of salty wind, sweeping views, and cultural overdrive.

In Union Square, travelers and locals shop for fashion prizes, sparkling jewelry, and innovative art from locals and international sources. Vintage clothing shops, music and movie galleries, and shoe stores line the avenues around the square.

Nearby Alcatraz offers the perfect excuse to load up on a cruise of the bay, ending in a few moments of lockdown, where travelers get to experience life in solitary before being freed back to their ships.

Cable cars are not only fun to zip around town in, but offer access to hilltop venues like Nob Hill, where the bay lays out in panoramic beauty at the feet of onlookers. Gothic, Victorian, and historical architecture crowd city squares and squeeze between modern structures around every corner.

The list of activities is daunting: wineries and breweries, health clubs and spas, museums, and street fairs pack the city. In the bay, sailing and yachting and watersports await. The Aquarium of the Bay offers 20 thousand marine animals and 300 feet of clear tunnels for viewing them in their natural habitat.

An unassuming gem of San Francisco, Fisherman’s Warf offers some of the best dishes of San Fran’s famous seafood: steamed crabs, clams, lobster dishes, and Ahi tuna salads. Outside, Pier 39 offers live music and two levels of unique shops, face painting stands, and crafts, as well as 14 restaurants. On weekends, street artists paint, dance, balance, and perform unbelievable feats along the Warf, to the delight of crowds.

The night scene in the bay is vast. Symphonies, opera, and theater run year round. North Beach offers sophisticated clubs. Indie bands and live music pump through the many bars and clubs of the city between Geary boulevard and Nob Hill, where the streets thump with a dozen diverse beats from Jazz to Techno.

No description of San Francisco can prepare travelers for the city’s allure and character, which are as unique and variable as bay weather.

REVIEW
"I left my heart in San Francisco, high on a hill it calls to me. When I come home to you, San Francisco, your golden sun will shine for me."
